VOCAL MAGAZINE

Mosby’s path to this point has never been linear. A Berklee trained musician and lifelong student of North Indian classical music under legendary maestro Ustad Imrat Khan, he has spent decades moving between systems of sound that rarely share the same vocabulary. Jazz, folk, New Age, Americana, Brazilian rhythm and raga based thinking don’t simply coexist in his work. They blur into a single evolving language shaped by curiosity rather than category: a continuation of a lifelong question about how place becomes memory and how memory becomes music.

PARENT WITH ANGST

In this exclusive interview, Mosby opens up about the realities of being a working musician and a parent, the sacrifices and rewards that come with putting family first, and how his son has become one of his most trusted creative collaborators. From wilderness camping trips that inspired songs on American Heartland to lessons learned through years of raising a child, he reflects on the ways parenthood has shaped not only his life but also his artistic journey.

AMBIENT VISIONS

In this conversation, we sit down with Mosby alongside producer Jeffrey Weber to take a closer look at his latest release, American Heartland. As the second chapter in his ongoing musical travelogue, the album shifts its focus inward, trading the expansive horizons of the Southwest for something more rooted and personal. Recorded at The Village Studios and brought to life by a remarkable group of players—including Vinnie Colaiuta and Leland Sklar—the record feels less like a departure and more like a return. It’s an album shaped by memory, place, and a deep respect for the musical soil Mosby first grew in.

ROOTS MUSIC REPORT

The album cover art for American Heartland finds the guitarist in a pastoral locale which might infer a kind of New Age setting, yet the album brings together a wealth of guitar genres with a crossover effect that gives it an even wider, inclusive appeal. Although not prevalent on this new album, it is interesting to note that Mosby is the inventor of the Imrat guitar that combines elements of the guitar with the sound of Indian instruments like sitar and rudra veena. Accentuating its wide range of jazzy influences, American Heartland is a fine introduction of Todd Mosby’s eclectic approach to the guitar.

 Land of Enchantment Album Reviews

Land Of Enchantment

Land of Enchantment has magic enough for several releases. Stylish, playful and cool, the album underlines the deep connection between geography, art and culture… BT Fasmer, New Age Music Guide

Mosby has a George Benson feel to his tone and licks as he breezes on ”Moonrise Samba” and a beautiful sound for “A Distant Light”. He plays a bluesy read of “Norwegian Wood” with an acoustic Imrat guitar, and gives a James Taylorish feel to the classic “By The Time I Get To Phoenix’. - George Harris, Jazz Weekly
